Name:
Timothy Gould

Tim’s enthusiasm for LEGO trains wasn’t affected by his moving from Australia to England five years ago. But the move did mean becoming more of a "virtual" designer than he was back in Brisbane.

"I’ve got less room at home now," Tim says. "And with a long train commute each day, it’s much easier to design trains on my laptop on the way to work."

Tim’s childhood interest in LEGO bricks has never really gone away, and now at 29, he says he spends "far too much" of his free time designing. His old Australian club is building a particular favorite of his, the Kuranda Scenic Railway in tropical Queensland.

Tim likes to design trains that are unique. The Trans-Siberian Railway was one of his first models. "No one else is doing that," he says proudly. He also marked the extension of the Ghan railway to the far north of Australia in 2004 by building a model of the Ghan train. The line links Adelaide to Darwin, extending a line that used to go only as far as Alice Springs. The route is considered to be one of the greatest train trips in the world.

As well as being a member of his old Brisbane club, Tim has belonged to LUGNET - International LEGO Users Group Network since 1998. Last year, he attended the 1000steine Land event in Germany, as well as a few events in the UK. He’s proud to have been invited to design a Hobby Train-especially given the "added challenge of having to make do with a limited number of bricks!"
