It is one thing to build a beautiful building with no furniture, but it is another to also build beautiful furniture to go with the beautiful building. I feel the whole building comes to life when both the inside and the outside have been built. It is also a lot of fun to be able to decorate your own buildings inside. With LDD there are many opportunities.

If you want to build furniture for small, compact modular buildings, go for parts that are small in size, 1x1 bricks in different shapes, like round bricks or square bricks: Even 1x2 tiled parts with the 1 stud on them, they look good as the front of a drawer as you can see on my pictures, this can be used throughout the building, for the kitchen, bedroom, lounge room and so on.

I like to use tiles in many sizes to make the objects look flat and more real-like than with the studs showing. Bricks or parts with texture add life to your building. If you have a larger sized building, your options are not as limited, but it also means you can add more highly detailed furniture in side your building.

To begin with, everything comes down to size. This means you must figure out how big the area or the building you are working with is. For example, let us look at the Market Street set designed by Eric Brok . Overall, this building is quite small and compact, both on the outside and the inside.

With my own copy of the set, I decorated one of the levels with a Bakery (the level above the basement). Due to the size to work in, I added nothing to the walls except for furniture. In this part of the building, I built 2 shelving units, 1 display case, bread roll stand, hallway stand and 2 bar tables. You can add many different features or colors to the furniture as you desire, giving them your own look.
Every room I add on or build needs some sort of furniture or interior. Think of a real house and what it contains. When I want to build interior inside a building, I like to use the space I have, without wasting it with large sized furniture. When building furniture, look at the size of your room and how much room the minifig has to move in, as you only need to give the impression that there is actually something there. In many cases, I use elements that are 1 brick wide. When using LDD, look at the colors and brick assortment so you have an idea of what is available, so your models do not look out of place due to limited parts in the preferred color.

With the furniture that you can see in My LEGO Factory folder, I have built a Kitchen . The parts I used for the kitchen are: 1x and 2x tiles for the flooring. The benches are made up of 1x and 2x bricks and for the drawers, depending on the size, I used 1x4 brick with 4 studs on the side then placed the 1x2 plate with 1 stud on top to resemble a drawer. I also used 2 - 1x bricks with the bar down the side to look like cupboards with handles or a refrigerator. 1x2x2 transparent windows/panels are good for cupboards or an oven front that you can see through. Black 1x1 round plates are good for a stove top and tiles on the benches makes the whole kitchen look smoother. I also added 2 stools for the breakfast bar.

The 'Moderna' Main Bedroom has 2 bed side tables, a double bed, wardrobe, 1 set of drawers, a lamp and a rug. The bed is made up of plates, 1x bricks, brick with arch 1x1x1 ½ for the sides of the bed to look like bedding, with tiles on top. 2 curved bricks 1x4x1 1/3 were used for the bed ends to give it a different look and the feet of the bed are 1x bricks. On top of the bed 2 – 1x2 tiles were placed to look like pillows on the bed.

Happy Building!
