Name:
Eric Brok

A teacher and IT professional, Eric is the proud designer of Market Street – a new LEGO Factory Exclusive set. Eric says his unusual LEGO hobby has landed him in some "surprising" situations, including a trip aboard a real tugboat!

Eric lives in the Netherlands where "every child grows up with LEGO". He still has his very first LEGO set, but only rediscovered LEGO bricks in his late twenties. Spying a LEGO Service set in 1995, Eric was fascinated with the clever new ideas that were starting to come out – and his fascination grew once he discovered the TECHNIC sets!

Eric maintains he is "not a LEGO set collector". But he owns almost all the LEGO Star Wars sets simply because "they are all superb." In all, he has over one thousand sets. "That’s too many bricks to count!", he says.

LEGO on my mind – the website Eric set up in 1996 – gave Eric a chance to share his thoughts on LEGO designs, and it soon sparked interest from other fans. He’s been involved in local and international LEGO events, and is a member of the Dutch LEGO fan group De Bouwsteen(it means "build stone"), who help organize LEGO WORLD. With over 800 members, De Bouwsteen has even honored Eric for his part in some of their projects – which include a large tugboat model design. To research, Eric visited the actual tugboat – and to his surprise, the crew invited him aboard to see the boat in action as it towed huge ships into harbor!

Eric says that the best part of designing a LEGO set was "the freedom to create something I really like myself". Eric’s Market Street set is a modular house that features several different stories and roof options, and he put a lot of thought into the small details. "I like the gimmicks, such as the green cabbage."

But most of all, Eric says that with his LEGO sets he "really enjoys the building experience".
