Mark Sandlin – fan designer of Space Skulls

LEGO Factory has landed two fantastic Space Exclusives, one being Space Skulls designed by lifetime LEGO fan Mark Sandlin – a graphic designer from Georgia, USA.

Mark Sandlin has always been a LEGO space builder. From the time he was a little boy; he has liked construction toys of various kinds and he was particularly captivated by the LEGO space sets. His interest for LEGO turned into a passion for life when his mom gave him the 483 Alpha 1 Rocket Base for his 6th birthday back in 1980. Mark still keeps this very first LEGO set in his house that includes more than 100.000 LEGO bricks.

As a truly dedicated LEGO Space fan, Mark is an official LEGO Ambassador and a big part of the LEGO community and he is the founder of SEALUG in Seattle, USA. After his move to Georgia, he has joined the DixieLUG Club where members build and share their model creations. Also, he has been to a large variety of other LEGO conventions across America such as Brickfest Bricksouth, and NWBrickcon.

With the launch of the LEGO Factory Space Skulls Space set, Mark is proudly facing the realization of a lifetime dream of publishing his own LEGO space set. The background story for building the Space Skulls, Marks explains in this way, "Space Skulls is very different from most other popular science fiction themed toys on the market right now. They are meant to invoke a retro science fiction style very much like Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon from the 1950s and 1960s". For all Space models, Both Mark Sandlin and Chris Giddens, the fan designer of Star Justice, were inspired by the artwork style here.

Mark Sandlin has created some impressive models in a universe where the Space Skulls are the "silly villains" who consider themselves dangerous, but they are really quite inept. They need your help to win the cosmic battle against Star Justice as they tend to be too busy trying to look tough allowing the heroes to escape.
