Are you a train enthusiast, but need some inspiration to really get the train building started?
Here are a few construction techniques that are useful in any LEGO model creation. Applying these techniques will help your custom train designs look great in the train yard. Bring your imagination and good building spirit, and let’s get started.

One way to learn is by examining something that’s already been built. I took inspiration from the historic 12-volt system Intercity Express from the 1980s, set 7740 (Figure 1). Set 7740 is very special to me since it was my very first LEGO train set. With a bit of imagination powered by LEGO Digital Designer and LEGO Factory, I built the tribute train shown in Figure 2. Let’s take a look at what construction techniques went in to designing this red and tan passenger train.
