Name:
Holger Matthes

Holger doesn’t know why he suddenly started searching the Internet for "LEGO" in early 2000. He hadn’t touched his bricks in years. But what he found, and the other LEGO fans he met, led him to discover a new hobby.

Six months later he was visiting his first LEGO event, organized by www.1000steine.de - German for "a thousand bricks". The first model he made was a railroad crane, and his lack of a yellow battery box to match the rest of the crane sent him off to the Internet again.

He discovered that there was a whole "trading" market out there-not only can you buy the elusive pieces you need, but you can also trade them with other fans. It didn’t take long to get the yellow box.

"Back in the 80s, I was hooked on the LEGO train systems they had then," he says. "Now, with LEGO Digital Designer, I’m building trains again, and uploading my models for the Hobby Train Box together with other fans involved in the project."

Holger has been to several LEGO events in Germany over the past years and is now helping to set up regional groups there - which show just how popular the hobby is becoming. In addition to trains, Holger also builds models of cities and buildings. His website is a showcase of his work, with highlights that include Venice and the famous Church of Our Lady in Dresden.

"You can already see the influence of the fans over the past few years in the LEGO community," he adds enthusiastically. "I hope the LEGO Group keeps on involving us!"
