Name:
Pierre Normandin

A geographer by profession, Pierre got his first LEGO box at an early age – a police car. But it was his second – a 7710 steam passenger train – that really got him interested.

Like a lot of AFOLs, Pierre says he came back to the hobby as an adult after "dark ages" as a teenager. Like other fans, it was a sudden, inexplicable compulsion to search for "LEGO" on the Internet that caused him to discover the whole LEGO community of fan sites, user groups and events.

"I like to build whole towns," Pierre explains. "Trains just belong in there too." He spends "several hours a week" on his hobby. He’s also one of the founders and current president of QuéLUG - the Quebec LEGO Users Group – so most of his free time is devoted to LEGO projects.

Pierre loves going to LEGO community events. He recently attended an exhibition at the Canadian Railway Museum, he’s been to BrickFest in the USA, and he’s even traveled to the Netherlands to visit LEGO World.

He is also helping to organize displays in model train exhibitions with his friends from QuéLUG to show members’ creations and designs.

Pierre’s American diesel train design for the Hobby Train Box was all his own work, however – kept secret from his friends and other QuéLUG members. He says it was a great project, not only because it helped improve his design skills, but because it got him more involved with the LEGO Group.

LEGO Canada knows Pierre well – he’s even served as their unofficial spokesman! When Canadian radio and TV wanted an interview they asked Pierre to help out.
